Laurie Raskin

Laurie Raskin is a Los Angeles based artist whose works have been exhibited in galleries and art fairs internationally. Her colorful works are highly collected through out the world, appearing in private and public collections, as well as public Institutions. A designer carpet line based on her artwork is sold throughout the world. A two page feature article about the carpet collaboration with Didden and Co in Brussels, was featured in the October 2018 issue of Paris Match Magazine. Laurie’s art has been licensed all over the world on such diverse applications as a fashion line in England to a vodka label from a micro distillery in Michigan. She currently has gallery representation in the United States, Europe and Asia.

“I create visual compositions. I have always been a hunter and gatherer, collecting images found in used book stores, vintage shops and libraries. I work from of my collection of magazines, postcards, art works, photographs as well from my own photographs and drawings. I repurpose images from my visual collection, first making photocopies and then cutting and altering images creating mono-prints, paintings and collages. I then paint, draw and sometimes collage over these compositions. I play and manipulate images to create works that often reference my childhood memories growing up in Los Angeles in the mid-sixties as well as paying tribute to my favorite artists of the 20th Century. My background in graphic design, with a BFA and MFA from California Institute of the arts, also informs the way I see and create art works, especially with the use of negative space in each of my finished compositions.”
